Who We Are

“SERVING THE NORTH STATE SINCE 1948”

The legacy of Slater & Son began over 65 years ago. In 1948, Don Slater started Donald H. Slater Construction. After trying his hand as a truck driver, apple farmer and high school shop teacher, Don found his niche as a general building contractor. He built hundreds of homes and light commercial buildings in the North State. Don’s integrity and attention to detail was the foundation that Slater & Son was built on.

In 1978, after finishing graduate school and working as a commercial/industrial real estate broker, Don’s son, Howard Slater, joined the firm. He became president in 1982 and changed the company name to Slater & Son. Howard’s interest centered on commercial/industrial construction, and Design/Build services. Since that time, Slater & Son has continued to build its reputation in this area and has completed hundreds of projects.

In 2011, after completing his Construction Management degree at California State University Chico in 2006 and working for 5 years as a project manager for West Coast Contractors, Brandon Slater, is the third generation to carry Don Slater’s values in to the future.

Slater & Son’s core strength revolves around its customer service and diversity. These have gradually expanded over the years to better serve our clients. The Slater & Son team of professionals has guided each of our clients through all stages of the construction process for over 65 years.

Our work is not just a job; it is a craft. We are continuously refining and improving our process. Every project yields lessons-learned, resulting in smarter decisions and building efficiency into the framework of who we are.
