Howard Slater

Howard Slater, President, Slater & SonPresident

Howard Slater has been instrumental in the planning and construction of over one million square feet of commercial, industrial, agricultural and service industry space in the North State totaling more than $80 million.

Certified as a LEED Accredited Professional (AP), Howard has a thorough understanding of the practices and principles of green building as well as the LEED Rating System.

As a second generation design-build contractor and developer, Howard’s understanding of every phase of planning and construction, including material and labor costing, regulatory changes, utility company structure and rules, zoning and land use issues and financing options, has earned him the respect of clients, subcontractors and peers.

In the office or in the field, Howard works with the Slater team to strategize the best direction for each project. His dedication and attention to clients’ needs help produce superior design-build projects consistently on time and on budget.

Prior to joining Slater & Son, Howard worked as a commercial real estate agent with Tracy Real Estate. Howard became a partial owner of Tracy in 1977 and continued with the company until 1979.

Howard and his father, Don, started D. H. Slater and Son, Inc. in 1978 as a construction and real estate development company. In 1982, Howard was named president of the company. At that time, Slater & Son moved primarily into design-build services and away from real estate development.

Howard received his BS from California State University, Chico and his MBA from UCLA Graduate School of Management. He is a LEED AP and licensed general contractor registered in California and Nevada.
