We have also formed Slater Land and Fortress Development Group, Inc., to build to suit and lease to clients who need custom space but do not want to own the building.
History
The legacy of Slater & Son began over 60 years ago. In 1948, Don Slater started Donald H. Slater Construction. After trying his hand as a truck driver, apple farmer and high school shop teacher, Don found his niche as a general building contractor. He built hundreds of homes and light commercial buildings in the North State.
In 1978, after finishing graduate school and working as a commercial/industrial real estate broker, Don’s son, Howard Slater, joined the firm. He became president in 1982. Howard’s interest centered on commercial/industrial construction, and specialized in Design-Build services. Since that time, Slater & Son has continued to build its reputation in this area and has completed hundreds of projects.
Community Involvement
Slater & Son and its employees are deeply committed to the North State community. As a company, we support the North Valley Community Foundation and the Torres Community Shelter for the homeless. As individuals, our employees touch every corner of the community. We led a group of contractors and suppliers to build the Chico Kiwanis Community Observatory in Bidwell Park. We support little league, athletic programs at California State University Chico, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts and a wide variety of other community groups.
